Exciton Science Mentoring Program | ARC Centre of Excellence in Exciton Science
WHY MENTORING?

One of the primary strengths of the ARC Centre of Excellence in Exciton Science is the expertise that exists across its five nodes. To ensure that all members of the centre have access to the relevant expertise, a cross-node mentoring scheme was being implemented for PhD and Postdoctoral members of the Centre in 2020.

MENTOR SELECTION

The Mentoring Program is designed for Centre members to gain new experiences and networks from CIs, Postdocs, AIs, alumni, and industry partners.

We have launched Round 3 for 2022.

Things to consider when selecting a mentor include:

  • Research area alignment
  • Professional interest
  • Career direction

BENEFITS OF A MENTORING RELATIONSHIP

Being involved in a mentoring relationship is rewarding for both mentor and mentee. Some of the benefits of mentoring are:

  • Develop new networks and contacts
  • Develop areas for professional growth
  • Look strategically at how to achieve career goals
  • Improve your performance
  • Increase your confidence and self-esteem
  • Develop new ideas and ways of looking at things
  • Assist in the development of others

ACTIVITY EXPECTATIONS

Whilst there are no formal requirements for the program, an expectation of an interaction every 1-2 months would be reasonable. This could be most easily achieved by setting aside time during the Seminar Series, Annual Workshop and other centre wide events, as well as by setting up coffee or Zoom meetings or even just a phone call.
