The ARC Centre of Excellence in Exciton Science seeks to deliver innovative solutions for critical energy and security challenges by developing new molecular materials and systems which exploit light in unique ways.
Our focus is twofold. In terms of discovery, we seek to fundamentally understand the processes that govern light harvesting, energy transfer and conversion in molecular materials. Building on our knowledge, we are also looking to develop new/hybrid materials for (i) harnessing and manipulating the full spectrum of light, (ii) optical sensing and optical security features.
We expect the Centre outcomes will enable Australia to be a significant player in next-generation energy technologies ranging from “full-spectrum” photovoltaics through to printable electronics.
Our research platforms are arranged in a manner that promotes and encourages cross-node and cross-disciplinary research and undergo a continual quality improvement management process overseen by the Centre’s Science and Executive committees.
One of the key characteristics of Exciton Science is that much of the skills held within the Centre are complementary, which means that our research themes are structured in such a way as to extend from the purely theoretical, to the experimental, to the practical.
